Albertsons Companies has named Tom Moriarty as its new executive vice president and general counsel, effective June 5, according to a Friday press release. He will report to Albertsons CEO Vivek Sankaran.
Moriarty brings over 30 years of experience to Albertsons and has spent the last 10 years at CVS Health, most recently as the company’s executive vice president, chief policy and external affairs officer, and general counsel.
“One of the things that excites me most about this opportunity is the vital role that Albertsons Cos. plays in the communities it serves as a grocery and pharmacy retailer committed to its customers and their well-being,” Moriarty said in a statement.
While at CVS Health, Moriarty oversaw legal and regulatory functions within the company, including its $78 billion acquisition of Aetna. He also led global pharmaceutical sourcing operations and served as CVS Health’s lead representative to the White House COVID-19 task force, the announcement noted.
Before his decade at CVS Health, Moriarty spent 12 years at Medco Health Solutions, where he held several leadership roles and handled corporate strategy, legal affairs, global supply chain management as well as mergers and acquisitions.
Moriarty will succeed Juliette Pryor who, after spending nearly three years with Albertsons, left in April and now serves as executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary for Lowe’s Companies, per her LinkedIn profile.
