Dollar General is offering the components for a trio of Thanksgiving dishes at a sharp discount, the retailer announced Thursday.
The promotion, through which customers will receive one product for free when they buy two, includes the ingredients for pumpkin pie, green bean casserole and sweet potato casserole.
Dollar General noted in an email that the promotion will last through Nov. 28, adding that items in its promotion are available at all of its stores. The retailer runs more than 20,000 stores across the United States, about 5,400 of which carry fresh produce.
The company is rolling out the food discounts at the same time as a broader holiday campaign known as “Deal Days,” which includes price cuts on selected goods for three days at a time. For example, the retailer is offering certain varieties of canned vegetables under its Clover Valley private label line under a 2-for-$1 promotion from Oct. 31-Nov. 2. The retailer is also knocking half off the price of items such as flatware, serving trays and dinnerware during that period.
Retailers have made a tradition of putting foods commonly used for festive meals on sale as the holidays approach, and that trend has taken on added urgency this year as grocers look to demonstrate that they are committed to bringing costs down for consumers.
Dollar General follows grocers including Aldi and Walmart in rolling out holiday-focused specials, although its promotion is more limited than what competitors are offering. Walmart is selling a bundle of 29 items intended to feed up to eight people for less than $7 per person and includes turkey for 88 cents per pound, while Aldi has rolled out a deal that includes the ingredients for a Thanksgiving meal intended to feed 10 people for under $47.
