Dive Insight:
DoorDash has added new regional and specialty grocery partners, providing on-demand delivery to each of them, according to the company’s press release.
As part of the new grocery partners, DoorDash added two Hispanic grocers, bringing its service to 65 El Super locations in California, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona and Texas and to roughly 59 Fiesta Mart stores across Texas.
DoorDash is also expanding its alcohol delivery with the addition of 31 Cub Wine & Spirits and Cub Liquor locations to its digital marketplace.
The new partners see DoorDash grow its presence in various U.S. markets, including Southern California with Stater Bros. Markets, the Midwest with Cub and Strack & Van Til, and the Southwest with El Super and Lowe’s Markets.
All the company’s new grocery partners are available on DashPass, DoorDash’s membership program, which provides free delivery for eligible orders costing $35 or more, the announcement noted.
These new partnerships come shortly after the e-commerce company launched in June its newly re-designed app — marking the biggest app update in its 10-year history. The update added universal search, the ability to build multiple carts, new navigation tabs such as a “grocery” one and the ability to use SNAP/EBT for online grocery payments. The new “grocery” tab gave customers better accessibility to build separate grocery carts throughout the week as well as discover items for specific recipes.
Since launching on-demand grocery delivery in 2020, DoorDash has accumulated more than 100,000 non-restaurant retailers to its marketplace and Drive platforms across North America, the company said. Those partners include Aldi, Sprouts Farmers Market and Raley’s. DoorDash is also helping Albertsons grow its newly announced Flash 30-minute grocery delivery and pickup service.
The DoorDash announcement comes just a few days after rival Uber, which has also been growing its grocery presence, announced tie-ups with The Save Mart Companies and The Fresh Market.
