Grocery e-commerce continues to be a formidable category in the industry. This week alone, two grocers linked up with third-party providers.
On Tuesday, Uber Eats announced a new partnership with family-owned and operated East Coast grocer Stew Leonard’s for on-demand or scheduled delivery, according to an emailed press release. Meanwhile, The Fresh Market began offering same-day delivery through a tie-up with Shipt, the Target-owned e-commerce provider announced Wednesday.
Stew Leonard’s customers can order grocery staples as well as heat-and-serve items; the grocer’s “gameday menu” options like chicken wings and seven-layer dip; and freshly baked bakery goods on Uber Eats, the press release noted.
Uber One members can get free delivery and a 5% discount on Stew Leonard’s orders totaling at least $35. Until Nov. 25, all Uber customers are eligible to receive up to 50% off their next order of $50 or more from the grocer, the announcement noted.
More than 140 of The Fresh Market’s locations are now available on Shipt, allowing customers to shop for bakery, deli, prepared food and grocery essentials through the Shipt website or app, according to the press release.
The Fresh Market customers will also have access to Shipt’s “Lists” feature, which enables users to create lists of products they want and then later add all of those items to their cart at once. Another feature lets customers select their favorite Shipt worker to complete their orders.
To kick off the partnership, first-time Shipt users can save $15 off orders of at least $50 at The Fresh Market’s digital marketplace through the end of December.
These newly hatched tie-ups underscore that e-commerce shopping options, specifically delivery, are a vital part of the grocery shopping experience. In October, grocery e-commerce sales jumped nearly 28% year-over-year to $10.5 billion, with delivery alone rising 46% to $4.8 billion, Brick Meets Click and Mercatus reported this week.
