Dive Brief:
- Gelson’s Markets announced Tuesday the departure of four senior executives from the company, including its Chief Information and Supply Chain Officer Ron Johnson, effective immediately.
- The three departing senior vice presidents oversaw merchandising and sales, store operations, and customer experience.
- The changes follow the appointment of Gelson’s new CEO and president in April and are part of what the company is calling a “strategic realignment of its leadership team.”
Dive Insight:
Gelson’s is not only parting ways with a key c-suite executive but also three other longtime senior executives just months after appointing a new chief executive.
Along with Johnson, Paul Kneeland, senior vice president of merchandising and sales; Tim Mahoney, senior vice president of store operations; and Yvonne Manganaro, senior vice president of customer and team experience are no longer with the grocer.
Kneeland and Johnson were with the company for seven years, according to their LinkedIn profiles. Meanwhile, Mahoney and Mangannaro were long-time veterans of Gelson’s, having spent 46 years and 21 years, respectively, with the grocer, according to their LinkedIn pages.
“These changes are part of an effort to align our leadership structure with the evolving needs of our business and the dynamic retail environment,” Gelson’s CEO and President Ryan Adams said in a statement.
Gelson’s said it will appoint interim leadership while the company “completes the redesign of its executive leadership structure” and finalizes a search for executive roles. Gelson’s did not specify how long this process would take.
The leadership departures come just a few months after the grocery company replaced its president and CEO John Bagan, who spent nearly a decade with the company, with Adams, an Albertsons veteran.
