Dive Brief:
- Hannaford Supermarkets plans to acquire the Paradis Shop ‘n Save Supermarkets locations in Fort Kent and Madawaska, Maine, according to a Tuesday announcement.
- Both stores are expected to begin operating under the Hannaford banner this spring.
- The announcement comes after the Maine-based grocery chain underwent a significant revamp in the first half of 2023, including renovating six existing stores and announcing a new location.
Dive Insight:
Both Paradis locations are supplied and supported by Hannaford but were independently owned and operated since opening in 1947, according to the announcement.
The stores will continue to carry Hannaford store brands including Taste of Inspirations, Hannaford and Nature’s Promise as well as products from local farms and producers, per the press release. Customers who are part of the grocer’s My Hannaford Rewards program will also be able to earn a 2% reward on all private brand purchases as well as receive personalized coupons.
“We’re confident that Hannaford will provide the same level of personalized service and outstanding products that make the Paradis shopping experience so special, while also maintaining our commitment to the community,” the Paradis family said in a statement.
The acquisitions of the two stores follow the Ahold Delhaize-owned grocer’s completion during the first half of 2023 of half a dozen store renovations in Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire. During that same period, Hannaford also opened a new store in Blue Hill, Maine.
The addition of Pardis’ Fort Kent and Madawaska, Maine, locations will bring Hannaford’s total store count to 189, including 68 storefronts in Maine.
