Dive Insight:
H-E-B’s land buy builds on the grocer’s ongoing expansion plans in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.
Located in North Texas, the property is across the street from the Dallas County Tax Office and is currently a development of office buildings, WFAA reported. The grocer’s arrival joins other prominent grocers also ramping up investments in and around the city, including Albertsons banner Tom Thumb, the news station noted. In the fall, Kroger said it plans to debut two “Asian Experience” supermarkets in the Dallas area in 2025 and Sam’s Club opened a scan-and-go-only store in the Dallas suburb of Grapevine.
H-E-B noted that its presence in the Dallas area began in 2001 when it opened its first Central Market store in the region, and now includes nearly 20 locations across three banners in that area. There are currently 12 H-E-B stores, six Central Market locations and one Joe V’s Smart Shop in the DFW Metroplex.
The retailer has seven H-E-B stores slated to open in the area, including two locations it announced in late November. A second Joe V’s Smart Shop is set to open in Dallas this spring and a third is slated to open in Irving.
H-E-B has over 435 stores in Texas and Mexico.
