Roche Bros.' Brothers Marketplace banner opened its newest store in Cambridge, Massachusetts Tuesday. It's the banner's fifth location to open since the concept debuted in 2014, and joins other Brothers stores in Cambridge, Duxbury, Medfield, Weston and Waltham, Massachusetts.
A trendy location
The store opened in the city's trendy Kendall Square neighborhood, an area located near tech companies and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and known for its population of young professionals and students.
Meal options galore
The 12,000-square-foot store is packed with in-store dining options, a scratch bakery, coffee bar and a curated assortment of fresh and local products. An additional 8,000 square feet is dedicated to prep space and a kitchen where employees make prepared foods and from-scratch items using Brothers Marketplace's own recipes.
The grocer's prepared food selection includes a salad bar, hot grab-and-go meals and a hot pretzel station. Customers can also get made-to-order sandwiches and fresh, hand-cut sushi. The store also offers an extensive selection of cold grab-and-go items.
Supreme meats
A full-service butcher counter allows customers to place special orders, make requests or order preferred cuts. The butcher sells only antibiotic-free and hormone-free meats and poultry, and includes selections like certified Angus Prime Beef as well as pork sourced from Niman Ranch, and Bell and Evans chicken. The counter also offers ready-to-cook options such as marinated meats, kabobs and house-made sausages.
A wide-ranging store brand
Brothers Marketplace stocks a line of private label products that includes dipping oils, vinegar, spices, pastas and grains, locally crafted cheeses and baking mixes. In marketing materials, the company says the products are prepared "how you would make them, if you had the time."
Life in the FastLane
In addition to full-service checkout, the new store is equipped with nine "FastLane" self-checkout kiosks. The area is staffed with Fastlane Assistants to engage with customers and support them in the checkout process.
Local, seasonal produce
The produce department at Brothers Marketplace focuses on seasonal produce, local producers and offers fresh produce daily from the New England Produce Market. Current selections include hydroponic greens from Little Leaf Farms in Devins, Massachusetts, and winter squash from Wards Berry Farm in Sharon, Massachusetts.
