Raley’s opened its first O-N-E Market on Saturday in the Northern California town of Truckee. The 35,000-square-foot specialty grocery store is designed to resemble a ski lodge and serves as a showcase for Raley's wide assortment of organic and natural foods that adhere to the company's health standards.
The store offers a large assortment of products that are fresh, organic when possible, minimally processed and sustainably produced. All products are free from ingredients that are on the retailer's banned ingredient list, including high fructose corn syrup, artificial preservatives, flavors and sweeteners, and hydrogenated fats and oils.
The new location blends together concepts from Raley’s supermarket and its existing Market 5-ONE-5 store that’s focused on nutrition and consumer education.
“This concept will influence and guide the strategic transformation of existing Raley’s stores in the near future,” Keith Knopf, Raley's president and CEO, said in a statement. “It is part of our long-range brand differentiation strategy.”
In recent years Raley's has eliminated private label sugar-sweetened sodas and tobacco products, added healthier products at checkout and introduced its Shelf Guide nutrition labeling program.
Raley's has opened two other stores over the past two months, including a new flagship location in Sacramento's Land Park neighborhood.
A new loyalty program
Raley's newly launched Something Extra Health program is a new loyalty program exclusive to O-N-E Market. The program offers in-store tours and classes, personalized nutrition counseling and recommendations by its in-house nutrition advisor and registered dietitian, Yvette Waters.
Meat and seafood
The store's meats are all antibiotic and hormone-free and its seafood offerings are 100% sustainable, according to Raley's.
Meal options galore
Raley's O-N-E Market Cafe offers coffee from Stumptown Coffee Roasters, an organic juice bar with fresh press juices, wellness shots, smoothies and acai bowls. It also offers meals like hearth-baked pizza, sandwiches, sushi prepared with sustainable fresh seafood and baked goods made with organic ingredients.
A lofted experience
Located in a loft setting on the second floor, O-N-E Market's beer and wine bar features local craft brews and wines that are curated by Raley's director of alcohol and beverage and Master of Wine Curtis Mann. The bar also sells "bar bites" created by the retailer's manager of culinary innovations and chef, Evelyn Miliate. To ensure social distancing, the grocer has designated seats with blue tape.
Focused on sustainability
O-N-E Market has several sustainable features including LED lighting and a reflective roof as well as motion sensors on its refrigerator and freezer doors and a low water consumption refrigeration system. Other sustainable features include more than 200 solar panels and an anaerobic digester process that makes organic waste into bio-natural gas to power homes and school buses.
