Save Mart opened the doors to its state-of-the-art flagship store in Modesto, California on Oct. 2. The prototype store spans 54,000 square feet and embraces the heritage of California's Central Valley, which Save Mart has called home since 1952.
The new store will serve as an innovation center for the grocery company, which operates 207 stores in California and Nevada under the Save Mart, FoodMaxx and Lucky banners. Shoppers will encounter fresh-made food, new experiences and products centered on local agriculture, produce and purveyors. The flagship also has a team of specialized staffers to serve each department.
In-store dining: The Tipping Point
A highlight of the new flagship store is The Tipping Point, Save Mart's new fast-casual eatery. The in-store restaurant will feature a menu starring tri-tip served five different ways — including tri-tip sandwiches, tortas, tacos and salad. The Tipping Point will also serve street corn, churros and other sides and will feature local beer and wine on tap, which will change seasonally.
Food from The Tipping Point and other signature prepared foods from the new store's hot bar and foodservice area will soon be available for delivery through DoorDash.
Produce fresh from the farm
Farmstand-style produce "straight from the valley" will be a centerpiece at Save Mart's flagship store, with the produce department featuring local farmers like Ratto Bros., which is located near the store in Modesto.
The store will also feature a Produce Stall where specialists will dice, chop, slice and juice produce to order.
Experts in meat and seafood
The meat and seafood departments at the new Save Mart are sure to be a draw for shoppers with an in-house smoker, grilled-to-order meats and seafood and ground-to-order sausage. At the smoker, customers can get made-to-order brisket, ribs and pork shoulder, while staff will make fresh sausage in flavors such as mango-habanero and tomato-basil.
The store will also have seafood and grilling specialists on hand to help customers make their selections and offer techniques on grilling, marinating, cooking and seasoning.
Cold beer, wine and cheese
Local brews and vintages will be showcased at the new store, with a dedicated beer cave offering 550 varieties and sizes — the largest selection of cold beer in Modesto, according to the company.
Wine lovers will find plenty of options as well, with wine specialists and cheese experts on hand to help with selections and food pairing.
Extensive foodservice and deli offerings
Made-to-order and freshly prepared food items will be a major emphasis at the flagship store. At "The Deli Market," shoppers can try items like a Chicken Tender Torta or a grilled cheese of the day paired with tomato soup. The prepared foods area features a selection of sides and salads, a hot food bar, a salad bar, fresh soups and a grab-and-go section.
