Dive Insight:
Kroger and Lidl are both promoting affordability with their Easter deals as the holiday approaches.
Kroger’s meal includes spiral ham, macaroni and cheese, a salad kit, frozen broccoli and 5 pounds of russet potatoes — all from private label brands — as well as Del Monte canned cream corn and Rhodes dinner rolls. For dessert, the grocer has several varieties of fresh fruit pies.
Along with ingredient essentials, Kroger is also providing resources to help with hosting. The grocer’s blog, The Fresh Lane, has several recipes, including carrot cake, and DIY activities like building an Easter basket and making homemade candy.
Kroger’s website also includes a calculator for how much ham to buy based on the number of guests and if the host wants leftovers.

Along with the private label spiral ham for less than $1, Lidl is also selling Dulano portion ham for 79 cents per pound and Lidl Preferred Selection double-glazed ham for $1.49 per pound, according to the emailed announcement. The grocer is currently running a “Go ham on Easter” marketing campaign to spotlight the three ham specials, which will be available through April 20.
As shoppers ready their Easter baskets, Lidl highlighted in the announcement that it is selling Favorina chocolate bunnies and marzipan eggs coated in dark chocolate each for $1 off. The grocer also has a deal for shoppers to buy two packages of Favorina marshmallows for $5.
Target and Walmart have already shared their Easter meal deals — neither of which includes eggs. Target’s is priced at just under $25 for nine items while Walmart’s lists for under $6 per person.
