Met Fresh opened its first store in Philadelphia on Aug. 6, parent company Associated Supermarket Group announced earlier this month.
The opening expands Met Fresh and Met Foods beyond the New York City metropolitan area.
ASG said that the store, located at 2014 S. Broad St. in the city’s South Philadelphia neighborhood, includes fresh-cut fruits and vegetables, a bakery, locally sourced products, a full-service deli and a pharmacy. The store also offers free grocery delivery for seniors.
The opening reflects “Met Fresh’s continued investment in independently owned supermarkets that strengthen the neighborhoods they serve,” ASG said in a statement.
ASG has roughly two dozen locations carrying Met Fresh and Met Foods banners, with stores concentrated in New York City or just outside the metropolitan area in New Jersey.
In addition to Met Fresh and Met Foods, ASG also runs supermarket banners under the Associated, Associated Fresh, Compare, Compare Fresh, Metropolitan City Market and Pioneer banners. Earlier this summer, ASG opened The Market of Point Pleasant Beach, a New Jersey store that is owned and operated by Shap Markets.
