Publix ceased operations of its in-store Aprons Cooking Schools on July 31 but will continue its online cooking classes, a spokesperson for the grocer confirmed in an email on Thursday.
The Aprons Cooking School hosted weekday classes and summer season courses for kids, teens and juniors and could be found at 11 Publix locations in Georgia, Virginia and Florida, according to local news reports.
The classes would sell out on a first-come, first-served basis and feature demonstrations from Publix Aprons chefs, the Tallahassee Democrat noted.
In addition to ending the in-person cooking school, Publix will discontinue its full-service catering, which includes delivery service and set-up. The grocer’s spokesperson did not specify when it would stop offering catering services, but the Tallahassee Democrat reported the service also ended on July 31.
“Over the past several years, our customers’ needs have evolved. They’re learning to cook through online classes and ordering our wide variety of catering platters for pickup and delivery to host their own events,” the spokesperson wrote in the email.
However, variations of both the Aprons Cooking School and Publix catering are available to customers. The grocer still has over 50 online cooking classes that are viewable via Publix Aprons Cooking School’s virtual classes, and no sign-up is needed.
Publix still offers a selection of appetizers, sandwich platters, deli meats, desserts and more from its Gather and Share catalog. These items are available for in-store pickup or delivery through Instacart, the grocer’s spokesperson stated.
