Save A Lot has named former Wakefern Food Corp. executive Bill Mayo as its new chief development officer, according to a Wednesday emailed announcement.
In his new role, Mayo will lead strategic growth for the discount grocer’s retail business and strengthen the company’s brand.
Mayo spent the last 29 years at Wakefern in a number of executive roles, including senior vice president of logistics, technology and engineering; senior vice president of perishables and technology; and vice president of dairy-deli/frozen food division, per his LinkedIn profile.
Most recently, Mayo was the company’s chief administrative officer, overseeing Wakefern’s development of its international wholesale sales division to increase sales and net gross profit.
“With his strong track record of success in the grocery business, Bill brings a deep knowledge and understanding of the complex undertakings involved with program development, comprehensive go-to-market strategy and project management,” Fred Boehler, who became the grocer’s permanent CEO in December, said in a statement.
Mayo’s appointment comes at a time when the grocer is eyeing a bullish growth plan of tripling its store count over the next few years, from nearly 800 stores to 3,000.
