Save A Lot is adding Uber to the list of third-party delivery providers the discounter’s stores work with, according to a Tuesday announcement.
More than 150 Save A Lot stores will kick off the partnership, which provides on-demand and scheduled delivery options through the Uber Eats app. St. Louis-based Save A Lot has more than 600 grocery locations across 32 states that are serviceable by Uber, the announcement noted. Save A Lot operates more than 800 independently licensed stores.
Customers can use Medicare Advantage or Medicaid health benefit cards, which allow healthcare benefits to cover the cost of groceries and over-the-counter drugs, to buy goods from Save A Lot through Uber Eats, the announcement noted.
"Through this partnership with Uber Eats we are continuing to expand the ways we offer fresh, affordable groceries to shoppers," Mark Kotcher, senior vice president of sales at Save A Lot, said in the announcement.
The partnership comes at a time when discounters and mass retailers have posed stiffening competition to traditional supermarkets in the online grocery space.
The Uber Eats partnership marks another e-commerce delivery tie-up for Save A Lot. The discounter is already available on Instacart and DoorDash.
For Uber, the Save A Lot partnership helps the delivery platform better appeal to price-conscious consumers, Uber Director of U.S. Grocery & Retail Partnerships Beryl Sanders said in the announcement.
Uber launched grocery delivery in July 2020 and has since grown its grocery roster to include Albertsons banners, Meijer, Kroger, SpartanNash, Hy-Vee and other retailers as it competes against Instacart, DoorDash and Shipt
