Dive Insight:
Nearly three years after opening its first Eatwell specialty store, Schnucks has set an opening date for a second location that will operate in its core St. Louis area market.
The new Eatwell Market, located at 220 THF Boulevard in Chesterfield, Missouri, will offer customers thousands of natural and organic items, with a produce department carrying both organically grown and conventionally grown fruits and vegetables and a meat department with products raised without added antibiotics and growth hormones, according to the announcement. The store will also have nuts, seeds, dried fruit grains and freshly ground nut butters.
Other specialty departments will also be available to shoppers, including made-to-order fresh pasta, pizzas, sandwiches and salads as well as artisanal cheeses and charcuterie, an olive bar and AI-powered Picadeli “smart salad bar,” the press release noted. The Chesterfield store will also have a beverage bar that offers single servings of smoothies, coffee, tea, beer and wine.
Through Schnucks’ partnership with Instacart, Schnucks Delivers and Curbside Pickup will be offered upon the store’s opening, according to the announcement. The new location will employ around 75 people and is still actively hiring, the announcement notes.
Schnucks has deployed a number of new formats over the past few years, debuting Eatwell Markets in 2020. In late August 2022, the grocer melded its express format with the Columbia Eatwell store to bring more traditional grocery items to Eatwell’s specialty assortment.
In September 2022, the Midwestern grocer bought Fricks Markets in Union and Sullivan, Missouri. In the same announcement, the grocer said it would build a second Schnucks Fresh store, following the 2021 opening of the first location under that banner in Jasper, Indiana.
