Smart & Final announced Wednesday the retirement of Scott Drew, who has served as the company’s president since February 2022. His retirement will take effect on Friday.
Drew has been with the California grocer since 2010 and held numerous executive positions, including senior vice president of store operations, executive vice president of operations, EVP of administration, EVP of Smart & Final stores and chief operating officer, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Prior to his career at Smart & Final, Drew served as Kroger’s vice president of store operations for four years, according to his LinkedIn profile. He began his career in the grocery industry as a checkout clerk in 1977.
Drew took over for Dave Hirz, who retired in early 2022 after more than a decade serving as the grocer’s president. Neither Smart & Final nor its parent company, Chedraui USA, stated who would fill Drew’s position.
As of 2022, Smart & Final operated 253 stores across California, Nevada and Arizona. Chedraui USA has 377 total locations in California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas under its El Super, Fiesta Mart and Smart & Final banners.
