SpartanNash announced Tuesday the promotion of Amy McClellan to executive vice president and chief customer officer. She will take over for David Sisk, who is leaving the company on Dec. 31 after being promoted only a few months prior.
Prior to her promotion, McClellan was SpartanNash’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer and has also served as the company’s division vice president of retail and vice president of fresh merchandising.
In her new role, McClellan will focus on driving sales growth in the wholesale segment as well as overseeing customer engagements for SpartanNash’s national accounts, grocers, e-commerce retailers and the U.S. Defense Commissary Agency and military exchanges worldwide, according to the press release. She will also take charge of field merchandising, sales operations, customer service and value-ended services.
Since joining SpartanNash four years ago when the company bought Martin’s Super Markets, McClellan has played key roles in SpartanNash’s private brands department, including leading the launches of Fresh & Finest by Our Family, a brand that offers deli, bakery, produce and meat products, and Finest Reserve, which provides wine, chocolate and more.
McClellan was senior vice president of retail at Martin’s prior to the acquisition.
SpartanNash said it has a search underway for a new chief marketing officer to fill McClellan’s former role.
Sisk’s departure announcement comes after almost four years with the company, and more than a year in the chief customer officer role. He spearheaded SpartanNash’s extended partnership with the U.S. Defense Commissary Agency. Sisk also oversaw the sales organization streamlining efforts, led the sales team to expand the national accounts footprint and secured this year new independent customers, according to the press release.
McClellan’s promotion marks the latest executive changes at SpartanNash. This summer, the company promoted Bennett Morgan to EVP and chief merchandising officer and Derek Tufts to vice president of human resources.
In the spring SpartanNash brought on Brandon Pasch, a former Giant Eagle executive, as vice president of center store merchandising and Arpen Shah, previously with distributor Essendant, as vice president of merchandising strategy and analytics — two hires the company said reflect its merchandising transformation efforts.
