Sprouts Farmers Market plans to enter its 24th state later this month with the opening of a store in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
The grocer plans to host a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 22 at the store, which is located at 5214 Rue Terre, according to a Tuesday press release.
Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins noted that the new store will create around 100 jobs for the area and bolster the local economy. The upcoming store has already secured partnerships with local Wyoming suppliers like Gotham Green, Disanti Farms, Hazel Dell Mushrooms and Fagerberg Family Orchards, per the announcement.
Sprouts’ first Wyoming storefront is part of the specialty grocer’s ambitious growth plans. Last year, Sprouts opened 30 new stores in 2023 and this year plans to open 33, down only slightly from the original goal of 35 due to the impact of Hurricane Milton on Florida.
Sprouts Farmers Market’s U.S. footprint
Wyoming also marks the first time Sprouts has entered a new state in at least two years.
Sprouts’ expansion plan, which it debuted roughly five years ago, has primarily focused on densifying in existing markets, including West Coast states like California and Arizona, as well as Colorado and Texas. The grocer’s store growth in 2023 also focused heavily on the East Coast, introducing a dozen new stores across Florida, New Jersey, North Carolina and Virginia.
The upcoming Cheyenne store also seemingly takes a page out of Whole Foods’ expansion playbook. Back in 2021, the Amazon-owned specialty grocer acquired Jackson Whole Grocer, a family-owned natural foods store in Jackson, Wyoming, giving Whole Foods its first location in the state.
