The Fresh Market has named two new leaders to its C-suite as it looks to sharpen its specialty retailing approach under the ownership of South American retailer Cencosud.
On Monday, the company announced Dave Ciesco as its new chief financial officer. Ciesco previously worked for American Eagle Outfitters, where he spent more than 10 years and rose to the role of senior vice president and head of international finance and operations. A retail veteran with more than 25 years of experience in finance and strategy, Ciesco has also worked at General Motors and Levi Strauss & Co.
Ciesco replaces Adrian Bartella, who joined The Fresh Market early last year in order to guide the retailer to the public market — an effort the retailer scrapped last year shortly after Cencosud acquired a majority stake in the company.
The CFO role has been a revolving door at The Fresh Market over the past several years. Ciesco becomes the fourth executive to assume the role since 2018.
Last week, The Fresh Market announced on LinkedIn its plan to promote Giorgio Bianchetti Gonzalez to chief merchandising officer. He will take over the role in late August after current Chief Merchandising Officer Dan Portnoy retires.
Gonzalez is a veteran at Cencosud who spent 12 years as the company’s chief merchandising officer and 23 years total across various merchandising, operations and leadership roles. He has led the integration of The Fresh Market and Cencosud over the past nine months and recently moved from Chile, where Cencosud is based, to Greensboro, North Carolina, where The Fresh Market is headquartered.
“Giorgio has been an integral part of the Cencosud growth and has helped to lead Cencosud to be a market leader in South America with annual sales of five billion dollars and a 33% share of the Chilean market,” The Fresh Market stated in its announcement.
The Fresh Market, which recently celebrated its 41st year in business, operates 159 stores across 22 states.
