Wegmans is gearing up to make its debut in Connecticut next year.
The grocery chain announced Thursday that hiring and training are underway for workers at its upcoming store in Norwalk, with plans to staff approximately 500 people.
The grocery chain said the 92,000-square-foot store is set to open next summer.
Wegmans has started hiring for full-time positions for the store, which include entry-level management, customer service positions and culinary roles. The company said it will mostly hire locally and begin filling part-time roles at a later date.
Wegmans first announced the Norwalk store in March 2022, noting at the time that the location would sit on nearly 11 acres of land adjacent to Route I-95.
Along with the Norwalk store, Wegmans is planning to open two locations next year: one in Lake Grove, New York; and one in Rockville, Maryland. In April, Wegmans announced plans for a roughly 110,000-square-foot store on the Ballantyne campus in Charlotte, N.C., that it plans to open by the third quarter of 2026.
Wegmans lists a Holly Spring, N.C., location on its “Future Store Locations” webpage, although it’s unclear what the timeline is for that store.
Wegmans’ footprint
The Norwalk store brings Wegmans to a new state as the grocery chain works on expanding its East Coast presence. Earlier this year Wegmans opened an 88,000-square-foot store in Yardley, Penn.
Wegmans stores in New York account for nearly half of the grocer’s fleet of 111 stores. Wegmans opened its first-ever Manhattan store — and second in New York City — in October.
