Weis Markets announced Friday the promotion of Bob Gleeson to chief operating officer.
Gleeson was most recently the grocer’s senior vice president of merchandising and marketing. He joined the grocer in 2018 and the following year was appointed vice president of merchandising.
Weis noted that Gleeson brings more than three decades of industry experience to the COO role. Prior to Weis, he worked for Supervalu, where he held roles including senior vice president of merchandising and division president.
As COO, Gleeson will oversee Weis’ merchandising, marketing, advertising, store operations, information technology, asset protection and pharmacy departments. He will also oversee the grocer’s supply chain departments including distribution, transportation and manufacturing.
Gleeson will continue to report to Jonathan H. Weis, the company’s chairman, president and CEO.
Gleeson is the latest major executive move for Weis and the first C-suite change the grocer has announced this year. In 2024, the grocer named new vice presidents for fresh merchandising, enterprise services, talent development and pharmacy.
Weis runs 198 stores across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia and Virginia.
