Red Clay Hot Sauce, a Charleston, SC-based premium hot sauce brand, has announced that it has secured a seed funding round of $1.5M to support continued growth, nationwide retail distribution and the launch of its new seasonings line later this year.
The closed Series Seed comes fresh off the heels of a successful 2020 for Red Clay, where it eclipsed $1M in total revenue as a company, grew its revenue over 300% YOY and landed its first major conventional retailer in Publix.
With Publix, 3 of Red Clay’s cold-pressed, barrel-aged hot sauces (Original, Verde and Habanero) as well as it’s 100% raw and spicy Hot Hot Honey are now available in all 1,200+ of their stores across the Southeast.
The capital will support Red Clay’s expansion into additional retailers across the US in 2021 as well as the full-scale launch of a seasonings line after an extremely successful test run on its website at the end of 2020. New SKUs will include:
- Red Clay Spicy Everything Salt
- Red Clay Charleston Harbor Spice
- Red Clay Spicy Red Mash
- Red Clay Spicy Margarita Salt
- Red Clay Spicy Bloody Mary Salt
Hailed as “Tabasco for the 21st century” by Food & Wine Magazine and “a hot honey to elevate your meal” by The New York Times, Red Clay is disrupting the hot sauce, honey and seasoning categories with its modern twists on traditional Southern flavors.
“We were able to successfully pivot in 2020 from Food Service/Hospitality to a strong direct-to-consumer presence on our own Red Clay website and Amazon, thanks to our amazing team” says Red Clay Co-Founder and CEO Molly Fienning. “We finished the year exceeding our revenue goals, which feels good, AND launching 4 SKUs in all Publix doors this month, which feels even better. In addition, we’re blessed to have investors with confidence & trust in our ability to grow, scale and make thoughtful decisions. We’re planning on another 300% growth for 2021.”
